Fynbos and Protea discussion response:

Fynbos?? - julie March 29, 2001

In response to Q: What is the correct botanical term for the Fynbos - Jessica, February 16, 2001 :
    • To my knowledge there is no botanical term for Fynbos-but it is rather a name given to the collection of vegatation of the south western Cape.
A definition given by Richard Cowling in his book on Ecology of Fynbos is: Fynbos is the dominant vegetation type, and contibutes most of the species to the flora, of the Cape Floristic Region.
Hope this helps a little in explaining what it is. Depending which book you read, there are a variety of different descriptions.
